Richard Avramenko is an Associate Professor of Political Science and the Howe-Bascom Professor of Integrated Liberal Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is the author of Courage: The Politics of Life and Limb (2011), co-editor of Friendship and Politics: Essays in Political Thought (2008) and Dostoevsky’s Political Thought (2013). He has published articles and chapters on Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Tocqueville, Dostoevsky, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Voegelin, Canadian identity politics, and mortgage and housing policy. Currently, Avramenko is writing two books, The Crush of Democracy: Tocqueville and the Egalitarian Mind, and Subprime Virtues: The Moral Lessons of the Financial Crisis.
